The Story of WIHD's Impact in Cameroon

In the diverse landscapes of Cameroon, the challenges faced by displaced populations resonate profoundly. With nearly 712,000 individuals displaced within Cameroon's borders, the urgency to support these vulnerable groups, especially women and families seeking refuge from conflict-ridden communities in English-speaking regions, is undeniable. This acknowledgment of their plight has catalyzed a collective response from individuals committed to effecting change.

From this shared concern, Women in Humanitarian Dynamics (WIHD) emerged, propelled by a dual mission: to provide immediate relief to displaced populations and address the economic hardships faced by them as marginalized individuals, who are mostly women in the informal economy.

WIHD embarked on its journey by initiating a microenterprise project tailored to provide small businesses to women entrepreneurs in the informal sector, empowering them to become self-sufficient. In collaboration with local training institutions, WIHD offered vocational skills training in fields such as food processing, and craft-making, equipping women with the necessary skills for sustainable income generation.

Today, WIHD's mission has evolved into a multifaceted approach that supports and connects organizations representing the working poor. Through advocacy, research, and direct support, WIHD amplifies their voices in policymaking arenas, striving to enhance their visibility and recognition within society.

With a focus on displaced individuals in the informal economy, WIHD continues its journey marked by resilience, determination, and empowerment. As the organization endeavors to integrate these individuals from remote communities into urban areas more equitably, it remains steadfast in its commitment to creating a brighter, more inclusive future for all.

"Embracing the power of the informal economy is fundamental to driving sustainable economic growth and fostering social justice within nations."
