Worker Collectives – Strengthening Voices

For displaced informal workers in Cameroon, daily life is often unpredictable. From street vendors in Yaoundé to artisans in Douala, many face unstable incomes, limited protections, and little say in decisions that affect their livelihoods. WIHD believes that when workers come together, they are stronger—and that collective power can change lives.

Building Strong Communities:
WIHD helps informal workers’ groups grow into organized, inclusive communities. By supporting leadership development and encouraging democratic decision-making, workers can make sure their voices are heard, their needs are addressed, and everyone has a seat at the table—especially women and young people, who are often most vulnerable.

Creating Financial Stability:
Money challenges shouldn’t hold back worker organizations. WIHD works with groups to develop practical ways to generate income—like cooperative savings, small business ventures, or member-led projects—so they can support themselves and plan for the future without depending entirely on outside help.

Participation and Decision-Making:
WIHD encourages members to actively shape the rules and goals of their organizations. By involving everyone in decision-making, workers gain confidence and ownership over their collective journey.

Connecting to Opportunities:
Many informal worker groups in Cameroon lack access to policymakers, researchers, or resources that could improve their lives. WIHD builds bridges, linking these groups to decision-makers and development experts, helping workers advocate for fair treatment and better working conditions.

Guided by Real Needs:
WIHD’s approach is rooted in understanding the realities workers face every day. By using research, data, and community feedback, programs are designed to solve real problems—helping workers achieve lasting, meaningful change.
